PRESSURE ULCER ''Pressure sores” is the term used commonly . They are also known as ‘bedsores’, ‘decubitus ulcers’. A pressure ulcer occurs when an area of skin is placed under constant pressure for a short period of time, resulting in tissue ischaemia, the cessation of nourishment and oxygen supply to the tissues, and ultimately tissue necrosis. The most accurate description of a pressure ulcer is that it results in distortion or deformation damage as a result of constant pressure.
